Ontario Student Debating Union (OSDU)

The OSDU Board of Directors has reviewed the Union bylaws and reached a decision on how OSDU and the Air Cadets can interact in terms of access to OSDU Regional and Provincial championships.

In terms of regional participation, Air Cadets are free to enter debaters in regional events without restriction (other than restrictions applying to all schools).  However, OSDU's provincial eligibility rules (and those of the various national events for which OSDU tournaments qualify) clearly state that teams must be composed of students attending the same educational institution. Therefore any Air Cadet teams that would like to advance to Provincials and beyond must comprised of Air Cadets attending the same high school.

It should also be noted that there is a strong view within the OSDU Board that Air Cadets from the same school attempting to qualify for Provincials should try to make an effort to start debating at their school and to gain OSDU membership for their school.  However, OSDU does not object to two debaters from the same school choosing to identify as Air Cadets, and to make a note of their affiliation in results which can be used for publicity purposes.

Nothing in the foregoing is intended to limit the Air Cadet's ability to use OSDU's resources and solicit their help.

Squadrons having an interest in entering teams in OSDU competitions are encouraged to visit the OSDU web site and contact the appropriate representative for their area.
