   1.2       General

 

  • Five members of the committee are required for a quorum.
  • Ex-Officio members are entitled to full participation except that they may not propose or second motions; they may however vote on matters pertinent to the committee.
  • An agenda is to be produced for the benefit of committee members fourteen days before the date of the meeting.

 

 

   1.3       Committee Responsibilities

 

  • To investigate, and report to the Board of Governors and Members of the Ontario Provincial Committee (OPC), on all aspects of the aviation program for Air Cadets.
  • Prepare a strategic plan, for the aviation program that will take us into the 21st century.     
  • Develop a mission statement for the OPC aviation program.

 

Assigned Gliding Centre Directors (AGCD’s)

 

  • OPC Directors are assigned to Central Region Gliding Centres to liaise with Gliding Centre Commanders and provide assistance where possible. AGCD’s are expected to attend the Gliding Centre to which they are assigned at least once each month during the spring and fall familiarization programs.  They will work with the Regional Directors and OPC Assigned Squadron Directors (ASD’s) to ensure active participation in the Central Region/Ontario gliding program. 
  • AGCD’s are invited to attend meetings of the Aviation Committee and are provided with copies of meeting agendas and Record of Decision (RoD) documents. They will fully participate in Committee meetings except that they will not propose or second motions or be entitled to a vote. 

 

   Assigned Gliding Centre Directors will:

  • Establish and maintain contact with Gliding Centre Commanders to ensure gliding schedules are acquired in a timely fashion. 
  • Liase with regional Directors and ASD’s to ensure all are made aware of scheduled Gliding Centre visit dates. 
  • Encourage ASD’s to advise their Squadron Sponsoring Committee Chairs and Commanding Officers of their responsibility to attend with the allocated number of cadets.  Alternatively, should the Squadron be unable to attend or to provide the allocated number of cadets, the Commanding officer is to contact the Gliding Centre Commander to enable him/her to fill the open spots with cadets from other Squadrons.
  • Strive to ensure the presence of at least one ASD at each scheduled gliding day.
  • Complete and submit a Gliding Centre Visit Report for each visit to their assigned Gliding Centre.

   1.5       Gliding Centre Commanders

 

  • Gliding Centre Commanders are invited to attend meetings of the committee on the same basis as Assigned Gliding Centre Directors.  They are provided with copies of meeting agendas and Record of Decision documents.

 

   1.6       Meetings

 

The committee will meet at the call of the Chair.

    2.1      Air Cadet League Mandate

              “To promote and encourage among young people a practical interest in aeronautics and to

                 assist those intending to pursue a career in the field of aviation.”

                   Our Vision

              “To contribute to the success of the Air Cadet League Mandate by encouraging           

                and assisting Air Cadets in the province of Ontario to actively participate in a

                wide variety of aviation-oriented programs.”

                    Our Mission

    Working closely with our military partners and aviation organizations and associations we will:

 

  • Provide the resources to permit a minimum of one glider flight per year for each and every Air Cadet under the mandate of the Ontario Provincial Committee.
  • Encourage Air Cadets to learn the basics of flight.

  • Work to provide opportunities for Air Cadets to participate in flying and gliding scholarship training resulting in the achievement of Gliding and/or Private Pilot Licence and Air Cadet Wings.

  • Promote among Air Cadets an interest in the field of aviation as a career.

  • Support Air Cadet Squadrons in the establishment of model aircraft building programs.

  • Educate Air Cadets as well as members of the Air Cadet League, Squadron Sponsors, Canadian Armed Forces and the public at-large on the specifics of our programs and their value to the Air Cadets of our jurisdiction, the Air Cadet League, the Department of National Defence and Canada.

  • Contribute to the selection process for power and glider candidates as to criteria and interviews.
